A Fresh Approach to ‘Rocky Horror’

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – The Millennial Theatre Co. will present “The Rocky Horror Show” for four performances at B&O Station banquet hall. Curtain times are 7 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with an additional show at midnight Saturday.

The campy and risque musical cult classic is being directed by Joe Asente.

The story follows sweethearts Brad and Janet, who are stranded with a flat tire during a rainstorm and stumble into the eerie mansion of Dr. Frank N. Furter and his bizarre friends. The B&O Station Hall will be transformed into Dr. Frank N. Furter’s castle, and audiences become guests at one of his outlandish parties, until they are interrupted by Brad and Janet’s arrival.

Asente said the show lends itself to this new and audience-immersive concept.

“Whenever I repeat a show, I want to be sure that I am only doing it if I can do something new and different that we did not attempt before,” he said. “For this show, we are literally welcoming guests inside Dr. Frank N. Furter’s castle, and the action of the show takes place all around you, rather than on a traditional stage.”

One aspect that will not change is the tradition of the audience getting involved with props and shouting out comments.

Tickets are $20 at MillennialTheatre.org. Prop bags for audience members sold each evening for $10. No outside props will be permitted in the building. Guests are encouraged to wear costumes and prizes will be given away each night.

Audience members will be required to wear a facemask.

A cash bar will be available before the show and at intermission.

The cast includes Ty Hanes, Ben Doss, Lynn Ohle, Will DuPuis, Daniel Gordiejew, Rebecca Williams, Sarah Kinser, PK Lankford, Tyler Moliterno, Ryan Stewart, Mark Williams, Alana Carkido, Gina Marafiote, Lauren Engle, Kata Swansiger, Michelle Jalbert, Daniel Chiaberta, Natali Miler and Mia Gagliano. Ema James is the choreographer.
