HD Davis, White Glove Emphasize Compliance

YOUNGSTOWN – In its 13 years in business, 2020 proved to be the most challenging one yet for HD Davis CPAs. But it gave the Youngstown firm opportunities to grow.

“As a smaller firm, we have to be resourceful in our growth and careful at every stage,” says Tim Petrey, managing partner. “Our conversion to a primarily virtual office environment happened quickly. We were lucky to have the right team and resources to make substantial investments to not only survive 2020 but to thrive.”

Converting to virtual work enabled HD Davis and its sister company, White Glove Payroll, to better focus on their clients. HD Davis assisted its clients with the Payroll Protection Program and kept abreast of the long list of regulatory updates in 2020.

“We made substantial investments in our internal programming to keep up with the new laws and help our team adapt to our new world,” Petrey says. “We implemented programs for mental health, mentoring and leadership. The results have put us in a strong position for 2021 and many years to come.”

In its second full year of business, White Glove Payroll nearly doubled its client list and expanded into new states, reports Angela Johnson, communications coordinator. The team spent most of the year assisting clients with compliance updates and is starting 2021 in a strong position, she says.

This year, HD Davis looks to expand its remote CFO services and traditional accounting services. White Glove eyes more growth in the small- to medium-sized business space while improving its customer service platform, Petrey and Johnson say.

In 2020, the payroll processing company ran a successful campaign with Stonefruit Coffee Company, 898 Marketing and Jet Creative that delivered over 1,000 bags of coffee to local health care workers. And the second annual HD Change Campaign raised $11,000 through a virtual fundraiser for Project MKC.
