YWCA Plans Racial Justice Programs

YOUNGSTOWN – YWCA Mahoning Valley survived the challenges of 2020 as it increased its outreach. With the help of partners and donors, the agency provided grocery gift cards, fresh food and other essentials to those who lost their jobs because of the pandemic, says Leah Merritt, president and CEO.

The organization plans to increase racial justice programming in 2021, including continuing its Lunch & Learn series that began in November. Beginning March 1, YWCA will host the 21-Day Racial Equity and Social Justice Challenge, Merritt says.

At the close of the year, YWCA received a significant donation from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott.

YWCA Mahoning Valley enrolled several new housing clients. It has not made any evictions because of non-payment of rent.
