Canfield Fair Reports 6-Day Attendance of 285,000

CANFIELD, Ohio – Attendance at this year’s Canfield Fair was just over 285,000, a dip from typical years but still an encouraging figure, fair officials reported Tuesday.

The Canfield Fair board said attendance for the six days of the fair was 285,125. The two major concerts both drew about 7,000 fans – 6,900 attended the Darius Rucker show on Sunday and 7,400 were at the Shinedown concert on Monday, the last day of the fair.

“In light of continued concern over COVID-19, we are pleased with the attendance numbers,” said George Roman, the fair’s director in charge of entertainment and concessions, in a statement. “The weather cooperated for the most part and it was a beautiful week for those that chose to spend their time on the fairgrounds.”

In 2019 – the most recent fair after the 2020 event was cancelled – the fair board reported a six-day total attendance of 340,000.

Despite the drop, though, the fair was still enjoyed by attendees, without a doubt.

“A lot may have changed in 175 years, but there’s one thing has been constant,” said Mahoning County Commissioner Anthony Traficanti said at the fair’s ribbon cutting on Thursday. “The dedication of families, our children, our grandparents, our aunts and uncles coming here for all of those years. This is definitely a mecca. People get to meet [and] enjoy their time.”

Next year’s fair, the 176th edition, is scheduled to be held Aug. 31 through Sept. 5.
