Flashback Mini: John Bell Landscape Painting

This landscape painting was created by Warren artist John Bell who was born in the city in 1846. A proficient artist by the age of 14, Bell would become famous for his landscape paintings.

At 16, he enlisted in the Navy until the end of the Civil War. After the end of the war, he studied painting in Cleveland and New York. He painted with several mediums including oil paint and watercolor.

Bell maintained a studio in Warren until his death in 1895. Three of the more than 30 painting that have survived the test of time now reside in the Trumbull County Historical Society collections.
