ODNR Issues 8 Utica Drilling Permits

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Eight permits for horizontal drilling in the Utica-Point Pleasant shale play were issued by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources last week.

All eight were granted to EAP Ohio LLC. Three were in Harrison County, all in Cadiz Township, and five in Jefferson County – four in Springfield Township and one in Salem Township.

No permits for wells in Columbiana, Mahoning or Trumbull counties were applied for, according to the ODNR.

In Pennsylvania, none were submitted for activity in Lawrence or Mercer counties, according to the state’s Department of Environmental Protection.

Through Feb. 22, Ohio has 3,200 permits for drilling in the Utica-Point Pleasant shale, with 2,719 wells drilled. There are 2,451 producing wells in the state and 11 active drilling rigs.
