Valley Auto Sales Up Slightly in September
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Auto sales in the area were up slightly in September as 5,132 new and used vehicles were sold, according to the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association. That number is 10 ahead of September 2019.
As a whole, however, auto sales are down significantly from their 2019 levels – year-to-date sales stand at 41,204 through the first three quarters, down 9.2% – because of the coronavirus and related shutdown orders, which closed or slowed dealerships in March and April.
New-car sales in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties rose to 2,941, up 86 units from September 2019.
Leading the sales chart is Sweeney Chevrolet, Boardman, with 218 sold, up from 161 a year ago. Following are Taylor Kia of Boardman with 166 sold, up 63 units; Boardman Subaru with 157, up 16; Sweeney Buick GMC with 141, down 12; and Fred Martin Ford with 134, up 18.
Used-car sales slipped slightly, with 2,093 sold in September, down 45 units from the same month a year ago. Taylor Kia was the No. 1 dealership for used cars with 103 sold, the only dealership to hit triple digits.
Across the Greater Cleveland Automobile Dealers Association’s 22-county footprint, 8,131 new and used vehicles were sold last month, up 11% from a year ago. Year-to-date, sales are down 5% to 63,975.
Sweeney Chevy ranked No. 6 across the association’s membership for combined new and used sales, followed by Taylor Kia at No. 7, Boardman Subaru at No. 9 and Fairway Ford, Canfield, at No. 10.
